South Gardens wins RIBA Award 2018
The RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architecture) London Awards recognise the best architecture and architects in the UK and are regarded as a mark of excellence internationally. Having won the RIBA London Award, South Gardens, along with other regional winners, will now be put forward for the RIBA National Awards (announced in June 2018), which are given to buildings across the UK that have made a significant contribution to architecture.
South Gardens comprises 360 homes ranging from three storey houses to a sixteen storey tower. Designed by Maccreanor Lavington architects the scheme for South Gardens delivers the first new homes of Lendlease’s Elephant Park Masterplan, replacing the former Heygate Estate.
From the outset, the design concept emerged from Lendlease’s desire to innovate and promote good practice and environmental design. The homes showcase the latest sustainable building practices and innovations, including cross-laminated timber, a highly durable material which is designed to improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The homes also feature water saving technology, with a strong focus on urban nature, including green roofs and green walls.
South Gardens also won the Brick Awards ‘Supreme Winner’ in 2017.
