The inside of a gym

The best gyms near our new build homes in Manchester

It’s a key consideration when buying a new build in Manchester City Centre: how close are those key amenities that you use day to day? When you’re choosing city living, you want convenience; you want everything you need right on your doorstep.

When it comes to keeping fit, Manchester has no shortage of options, especially within easy reach of our Potato Wharf development in Castlefield. Here’s a rundown of some of our favourite fitness spaces in Manchester.

Barry’s

3 Lower Byrom Street, M3 4AP

A high-intensity interval workout that inspired a range of up-tempo, high-energy gyms in North America and then internationally, Barry’s in Manchester is the first UK location outside of London. You can expect neon lights, drop beats and an instructor that’s going to push. The aim for most is to burn 1,000 calories in a session and the results speak for themselves.

A variety of workouts are available, with each day of the week dedicated to a different part of the body.

Outside of the gym or ‘red room’ itself, you’ll find luxurious touches throughout. A Fuel bar with health-inspired menu is there to keep you going after a session, whilst in the changing rooms and common areas you’ll find free Wifi, hair care, luxury toiletries, steaming hot showers, complimentary towels and lockers.

Prices are provided by groups of classes, ranging from £20 for one, to £600 for 50. And Barry’s is a mere 8 minutes by foot from Potato Wharf.

The Gym Group, Deansgate

The Great Northern, 253 Deansgate, M3 4EN

It feels like in the past few years The Gym Group has conquered the UK fitness market, with new branches across almost every city and town up and down the country. With flexible passes that allow you access to other locations – there’s no doubt The Gym Group is a great option for those who travel.

At the Deansgate branch, you’ll find a traditional layout with a generous weight and lifting area, 42 cardio machines, a functional training area, showers, changing rooms and free Yanga sports water. The best part is, your monthly charge is commitment free and rolling, with prices starting at a manageable £16.99 per month. Oh – and it’s only a ten-minute walk from our development in Castlefield.

Bannatyne Health Club and Spa

Sunlight House, Quay Street, M3 3JZ

Listed as a ‘Health Club and Spa’ – Bannatyne’s on Quay Street is as much for your wellbeing as it is for your fitness.

The list of amenities at this particular branch is more than enough to convince you into membership: heated swimming pools, spa pools, sauna, steam room, and if you’re not feeling a workout – treat yourself to a treatment instead.

All classes are complimentary with a monthly membership, with genres including Yoga, Les Mills, Pilates, Circuits and more.

Prices start from £29.99 per month with no joining fee. Membership does take a commitment of 12 months or more, but you do have the option to freeze your membership if you know you’re not going to manage for a set time.

The best part? It’s only a short, ten-minute walk from our new builds in Manchester.

Train CrossFit

6 Arundel Street, M15 4JZ

As much a community as it is a gym, this specialist CrossFit space focuses on strength and conditioning, for all levels of ability. Expert coaches include the 2013 World Female CrossFit champion, Samantha Briggs, so you know this is a space that’s accessible and welcoming to all genders.

All programmes are tailored to the individuals’ abilities and desired outcomes. A monthly membership gives you access to the open gym and all classes as well as inhouse competitions if you’re up to the challenge!

Prices start at £95 per month, but a reasonable £45 will get you a ‘taster package’ which will give you a real feel of whether this form of training is for you.

From our homes for sale at Potato Wharf, Train is only a 9-minute walk from your front door.
