Getting to Potato Wharf

One serious benefit of Potato Wharf’s location is its proximity to Deansgate Station. Deansgate Station has regular eastbound services to almost every other part of the city, with direct services to Manchester Oxford Road, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. And from these transport hubs you can reach almost every other part of the country; London, Edinburgh and Norwich are all only a journey away. And westbound services take you direct to Liverpool Lime Street, Blackpool North and Southport. 

Deansgate Station is also home to the Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop. Here you can catch an abundance of trams to other areas of Manchester city and further afield: Piccadilly, Media City, Victoria, Eccles, Rochdale, Etihad Campus, Bury and Ashton-under-Lyne are all serviced by at least five trams per hour. With the cost of a ticket to somewhere like Piccadilly costing between £2 and £4, it’s often a more cost-effective option than the train! For those working in professional industries, sometimes travel is required. Be it overseas or even just to the UK’s other major cities, sometimes you need to be able to travel to and from in one day. Manchester Airport offers early morning flights to both London and Edinburgh. And since you can reach the airport within 30 minutes by tram or 29 minutes by train, it’s easily accessible from our flats for sale in Castlefield. Of course, your leisure trips are also made infinitely more pleasant by removing the obligatory hotel stay the night before when you have an early morning departure!

Manchester now has their own version of the well-known Oyster Card, a pass that gives you access to all the city’s transport options: tram, train and bus. You can purchase for one day, seven days, 28 days or even annually and there are discounted options available for students, juniors and young people (16 – 21years). There are also cheaper options available if you know you’ll only use one or two of the three types of transport.

With all of the above considered, it’s worth remembering that Castlefield is still considered part of Manchester City Centre, which means that reaching places by foot largely requires very little effort!

From Potato Wharf, you can reach Spinningfields by foot within 12 minutes, the Northern Quarter in 28 minutes and Blackfriars in Salford within 20 minutes. There’s really nowhere within the M60 ring road that takes longer than 40 minutes to walk to from our Castlefield apartments. And - let’s be honest – sometimes it’s nice to squeeze in those extra steps instead of sitting on the morning commute.

Manchester is also a bike-friendly city with heaps of cycle lanes and marked routes throughout. There’s also a dedicated website to help you navigate, plan and speak to like-minded cyclists.

Now this may be a tenuous link, as you’re definitely not taking a canal boat to your workplace in Salford, but the canals are a key draw of Castlefield.

Once home to a major industrial collection of waterways and warehouses, Castlefield was a main route for goods and shipments coming into the city. Nowadays they provide a historical and beautiful backdrop for many of the area’s exceptional eateries and bars. And they’re also a lovely place to walk around and explore on a sunny afternoon.

So upon examination, Castlefield is perhaps one of the best-connected districts in the city of Manchester. But, beyond that, it’s a desirable place to live. A place that’s bursting with history, good restaurants and a sophisticated social scene, without sacrificing accessibility.
