Five great eateries to try in Deptford

Deptford has fast become a cool little corner of London, somewhere people who are in the know flock to discover yet another hidden gem. And this is certainly true when it comes to Deptford food. From Deptford Landings, there’s an abundance of exceptional Deptford restaurants – so many that they don’t all fit in one article! And don’t worry – we’ve checked, and many of your favourite restaurants in Deptford are open again for business, post-lockdown.

Eat Vietnam Bar B Grill

234 Evelyn Street, SE8 5BZ

A mere seven-minute walk from your Deptford flat (if you live at Deptford Landings), Eat Vietnam is an authentic, Vietnamese restaurant on Evelyn Street. The exterior is unassuming; the interiors, comfortable; and the food – exceptional. If you’re looking for something full of flavour and fresh you’re in the right place. You only need to read through the stack of rave reviews on Google or Tripadvisor to realise it’s fast become one of the most beloved eateries on the Deptford food scene.

Dirty Apron

Arch 9, Deptford Market Yard

What’s better than dishes created by people who love food? That’s what Dirty Apron is. Homemade dishes that change on a weekly basis, made from scratch from seasonal produce. This means that each time you visit your eye is going to be drawn to something deliciously new on the menu. Drop in for a brunch special or treat your friend to coffee and freshly baked cake. All served up in the very cool arches which can be found in Deptford Market Yard – less than a 20 minute walk from our flats in Deptford.

Manze’s Pie and Mash

204 Deptford High Street, SE8 3PR

If there’s a restaurant which is quintessentially London, it’s got to be Manze’s. This family run restaurant has been open for over 100 years, passed from generation to generation – so it’s safe to say they know their pies. Manze’s serve up (you guessed it) the traditional London fayre – pie, mash and eels (or parsley “liquor” for the more cautious). Every visitor, whether taking away or sitting in, is guaranteed a hearty meal and an insight into the great city’s cockney traditions.

Marcella

165A Deptford High Street, SE8 3NU

Simple, well-executed cooking. That’s one way to describe Marcella. The team use British produce and Italian cookery to create delicious menus. The interior is chic; the wine-list, exclusively Italian; the service, welcoming. The menu features a small selection of pastas, main dishes, antipasti themed appetisers and drool-worthy desserts. Each of them based loosely on an Italian theme. It’s a sophisticated affair, but one that can be enjoyed with friends on a very regular basis. Find Marcella on Deptford High Street, simply exit our Deptford Landings flats and walk along Evelyn Street. Turn right on to the High Street and you’re there.

Buster Mantis

3-4 Resolution Way, SE8 4NT

Event space, gallery, and most importantly, bar and restaurant with a relaxed Jamaican theme – Buster Mantis is a crowd pleaser. Even better, it’s another well situated hotspot, taking up two arches behind Deptford Market Yard. With one space dedicated to drinks, and one for eating, you can seamlessly move between the two with your group, enjoying the flavours on offer. For the food – think saltfish fritters, jerk chicken and shrimp. And for the drinks – all the rum!

Stockton

2 Deptford High Street, SE8 4AF

It’s a family affair, as Buster Mantis’ younger sibling makes the list. Here, the star of the show is the cocktails, cocktails so good you need to eat so you can have a few more. Good job there’s an excellent menu. In this Deptford restaurant there’s a loose Mediterranean theme, so you can enjoy the best of the med combined with fresh British Ingredients. Given the social nature of the place, the food comes in small plates, so you can sit and chat and share the night away with your friends and family.
